Panama City

March 24, 2011
Today was our stop in Panama City, Panama. We boarded the tender to the small port and negotiated a taxi to take us into the old city. Driving through some very poor areas, we arrived in the old city and toured the Panama Canal Museo.

No photos allowed, but we saw all sorts of artifacts and historical papers documenting the building of the Panama Canal.
Then we walked toward the square and asked for a suggestion for lunch. La Forchetta was suggested and we were happy…PIZZA and it was really good.

After lunch we walked around and discovered some of the old buildings and churches and did a little shopping.

We arrived back to the port by taxi just in time to grab the tender back to the ship before it started to rain quite hard.
It was hot and humid and we were in town just long enough to get the flavor of the Panamanian people. Greg speaks Spanish very well and I get by, so the locals treated us very nicely. It is amazing what speaking to someone in his or her own language will get you. A few “por favors and gracias”, and we were no longer “touristas”.
It was a fun day.
