That's quilt number 13 in my quilt history.
In the summer of 2004 I decided to have a Friendship luncheon.
I had become very close to several new friends through
my participation in the Avon 3-Day, 60 mile walks for Breast Cancer
(now known as Susan G. Komen for the Cure),
and wanted to gather these new friends with my old friends and just
thank them for being such supportive friends.
In this group of about 20 women,
3 were actively fighting breast cancer.
I made a wonderful luncheon of quiche,
chicken salad in lettuce cups,
tomato and cheese tarts
and an array of desserts.
We played a little game,
and for every question they got correct
they got a raffle ticket to win this quilt.
One of the questions was, "Have you had your mammogram this year?"
I wanted to make sure my friends were taking care of themselves.
The quilt was made with a line of fabrics designed by Mary Englebreit
and the design is based on friends, so it was perfect.
The finished quilt was 72"x90".
The lucky winner was
my dear friend Monika.
At the time she was a fairly new friend.
We met at a scrapbook workshop
and have been great friends ever since.
