Circle me back to Amsterdam

That's what I think I will call my next quilt.
I have been inspired by this bag, by Ayumi,
photo from Ayumi's blog

that I saw in the latest issue of Stitch Magazine.

I bought these fabrics in 2003 in Amsterdam.

I had just started quilting a few months before we went on holiday
and thought these prints would be so pretty in a quilt.
They are original Dutch chintz reproductions by Haan & Wagenmakers
and it says AMSTERDAM on the selvage
so I will be sure to use the selvages in the quilt somewhere.
It took me 8 years and many quilts later to decide what to do with these 8 fat quarters.
And I gotta tell you, the Dutch are cheap...
these pieces only measure 15 1/2" x 17 1/2"!
That's not really a fat quarter in my eyes.
I will combine them with three different colors of linen
and maybe some Kona solids, for more circles,
and hopefully make a really awesome quilt.
And to spoil me Mr. Romance not only served me breakfast in bed this morning
but bought me this GO Cutter!
after I told him how hard it is to cut out perfect circles.
I had nonchalantly been hinting at wanting one since Christmas!
Look at these perfect circles, 72 of them cut so far!

I think a hexagon quilt is in my future for sure, now!

A lovely story. What a thoughtful gift from Mr Romance. Your circle quilt will be very special.

You continue to be such an inspiration - your quilt will be just gorgeous, I know it. I think we have very similar tastes I`ve decided! Isn`t Amesterdam a wonderful city? I think it is very romantic, just like your husband. Great quilt cutter!

Oh, Den Haan and Wagenmakers ... yes, I do have some fabrics from that company in my stash, too ... My DMIL was married to a Dutch man in her second marriage, and her love of the Netherlands was inherited by her children (and yes, that's absolutely fine with me - I love that country, too!). Will be fun to see how your circle quilt turns out!
