By the skin of my teeth

Who knows where that saying came from? I sure don't, but I remember my mom using it a lot when I was a child. It does explain the way I just made the deadline for mailing my Post Sewing Summit Swap gift. But let me step back a week or so and say I am happy to be blogging again and hope to keep up a regular schedule of posts.  My mom is happily settling in to her new senior living home and has already made new friends and enjoyed some of the activities offered there. She was released from physical therapy and is doing well. Thank you to all who sent me emails and commented that they were thinking of her, praying for her and wished her well. You are all very special to me and my mom appreciates all the good thoughts being sent her way. The nice thing about blogging is you can drop out of sight for a while and only a few people will notice, but when you come back all your peeps are there to welcome you again with nice words and encouragement.
The Post Summit swap had a fast turn around. We only had about 3 weeks after we were assigned out partner. We were to make either a mini quilt or a zippered pouch. Since I had just finished the Pretty {little} Pouch Swap 3, I decided to try my hand at a mini quilt. I have never made one before. First, I had to find out...is a mini quilt just a small quilt or is it supposed to be made of teeny tiny squares and triangles? I decided to make a small quilt. The squares are 3" and the quilt measures approximately 24"x 24". So nothing too tiny to work with.
My partner requested yellows, but not any yellows, specifically Mustard, Curry and Ochre, so I pulled out my Kona solids color chart and started pulling fabrics from my stash. But since this is a Flickr swap, we need to post teasers to the Flickr site, so my first photo was this black and white teaser...that way my partner couldn't see the colors and wouldn't guess it was for her.

The other night while I was sewing the binding on the mini I posted this photo to Twitter, using my Instagram app.

And here's the final photo. The rain stopped long enough for me to snap a few photos outside yesterday. My partner likes half-square triangles. I hope this makes her happy. My quilting is minimal...I really suck at machine quilting so I just did a few straight lines in a continuous square pattern.

As a little extra, I made this tiny coin purse. It's my first time to make something so small, but it was really fun and I think it turned out cute. I ordered the frames from an Etsy seller...long ago. They took forever to get here. Note to self...look where the Etsy seller is located before pressing "send order" She was located in China! But they were worth it. They are really cute and were a good price.

So here's the quilt and the purse (this photo shows the other side). I hope she likes cats. I really don't like cats but thought this fabric was super cute.

It's Saturday and I have already gone to a soccer game this morning. Mr. Romance is doing his monthly charity work, so I better get busy sewing and take advantage of these few hours. I need to finish Baby Carrot's quilt. It's been sitting as a UFO for a while.
Just saw this is my 400th post. Wow! I am quite a blabber mouth, aren't I?

Thanks for stopping by,

Welcome back Di - we missed you. Your mini quilt is lovely and it`s great the way you mercilessly teased your poor partner. Such a cute mini pouch and I`m not much of a cat person either but I do love dogs. Good to hear your mum continues to do well. x

Love the mini quilt and the coin purse. You've made quite a few of those purses now. I still need to make my first.

That little kitty coin purse is adorable! I love kitties, but I don't think that I've seen that fabric before.

Hey, nice to see you :o) Absolutely love that mini quilt, and the wee purse is so cute! I just ordered those same frames from the same seller, but as I don't *need* them till after Christmas, I figure anything before then is a bonus lol
