Paper Piecing for Baby Carrot

I'm back to finishing the Baby Carrot quilt.
I worked on the label over the weekend and then yesterday got the quilt spray basted and started quilting.
Here's the label. I think it is so cute.

Everyone who reads my blog knows I have a fear of quilting my own quilts. I always send them out unless it is super small. I decided to bite the bullet on this one and learn how to do it correctly.
First words of advise came from Jennifer, of Ellison Lane Quilts. She recommended 505 spray basting adhesive. Wow! What a difference this makes. It works so much better than what I was using and it doesn't poison the air or leave me with a headache. I even sprayed it in the house, because it was cold outside yesterday!
The second word of advise came from Susan of PatchworknPlay. She said she likes to use a combination of hand quilting and machine quilting. I loved that idea so began the hand quilting last night.

I think I will hand quilt around each pinwheel and then machine quilt in the centers and on the sashing.

Thanks Suz and Jennifer. So far, I am a happy quilter!
Hopefully, I will finish this by next week, when Baby Carrot is due. Then I can add her name to that blank line on the label and get this quilt in the mail.
And here is Baby Carrot's sister, Q, wearing the little outfit I made for her birthday. Little Apples fabric and a darling little girl. What could be better than that?

Thanks for stopping by,

Oh, your baby carrot quilt is going to be be lovely with the hand quilting! Wish we could buy 505 spray here in Australia! I use an adhesive spray but not very successfully I'm afraid! The label is beautiful! BTW -thanks for the acknowledgement!

That is a seriously fun label. I like the idea of hand quilting around each pinwheel and then doing some machine quilting. I found that jumping in head first with quilting is the best way to go. Just relax and go for it! Good luck!

Good for you for quilting your own quilt. I bet it will feel awesome when you are done.

They both look great! I was taught to tie quilts by the ladies at church. That's what I always do.
I am going to give a try at hand quilting, but I just can not imagine the amount of time it will take to do it.

I simply love the baby carrot paper-piecing! May I ask where you found the patten or did you come with it on your own? I love the idea of personalizing your label so nicely done!
