Handmade Christmas

My goal this year was to make everyone on our list at least one handmade gift. I almost achieved my goal. I won't mention those that did not get a handmade gift because they did get something, just not handmade.
You can see the clutch coin purse was sort of a theme here.
But I also made pillows, crocheted slippers and a few fabric baskets. Most of these things I have already blogged about. I did some race to the finish sewing to be ready for our son's arrival on December 30th. I kept thinking I had an extra week but things kept getting in the way. In the end, I got it all done and I was very happy to be able to give everyone a little handmade gift.
We also gave our son, Michael, a quilt. It is really not a Christmas gift, but an early graduation gift. He is graduating in 5 weeks from the fire academy. He has worked so hard to try to get this position. He has endured many weeks away from his wife and kids, gone through a re-eduation (he already has a BS degree from UCLA), and has been through a rigorous physical training period. He asked for a quilt for graduation but since it is very cold in Bakersfield right now and the quilt was finished we presented it to him on Christmas Eve.

I used a jelly roll of Petite Ecole and Kona Khaki to make the quilt.
I backed it with a sheet from Pottery Barn.
As soon as Michael got back to his apartment in Bakersfield he set up his bed and texted me a photo. I'm so glad he likes his quilt.
I'm linking up with Polka Dot Chair's Handmade Christmas linky party.

I love that your son has the matching sheet and pillow cases to go with his quilt. The complete set then! Beautiful gifts were made for everyone. Well done you!

I love that quilt Di and it looks like he did too. The firetruck sheet on the back was a great idea!

I love the quilt! The pattern on the front is really cool and it's fun that you put the fire-trucks on the back!!

I also LOVE LOVE LOVE that circle quilting on your pillows!!! It looks so good in contrast to all the straight lines on the pillow.

Beautiful quilt! To me that is an unusual gift request from a guy...I know none that would ask for a quilt as a gift of any kind. Congrats to him for his many accomplishments.

I found you through the Polkadot Chair linking party.
