Festival of Half-Square Triangles

I wasn't sure if I was going to get a project finished in time to submit to the competition that Megan is hosting today, but managed to get this quick pillow put together. The hardest part for me was trying to decide on how to arrange the leftover HST from my Swoon quilt.  I have been saving them to make some pillows to go with the quilt. I finally took that quilt to the long arm quilter last week. I can't wait to get this one back. It is going to be our summer quilt for our bed.

Here is what it looks like in case you need a reminder. It is made with Joel Dewberry's Heirloom line in the Citrine color way, with a few added fabrics to coordinate. I used Kona Snow as the background.

This is the first pillow of three that I want to make with the HST. It is approximately 19" square and I used a 20" pillow form to make it nice and plump.

I found this cute yellow dot fabric at my LQS for the backing and inserted a hidden zipper. My machine decided that it was going to give me fits, but I finally got that zipper installed.
pillow back

I quilted it using Aurifil 50 wt. with  simple echo lines following the squares  the patterned fabrics created. And then I added some hand quilting using DMC floss in yellow, orange and sea green. I have had this box of DMC floss since the mid 1980's when I used to cross-stitch like there was no tomorrow. This floss lasts forever.

Then I took my pillow on a little photo shoot around the backyard on this absolutely glorious day. I just love the day after it rains. The sky is so blue and the air is so clean.

My flowers from Mr. Romance were still looking good so they coordinated beautifully with the pillow.

And then playing with my iphone and the Snapseed app I created one artsy-fartsy photo.

Thanks for stopping by,

Beautiful pillow Di! I love the hand-quilting - and know what you mean about how DMC floss lasts forever, I rediscovered some of mine this year in my mom's basement that must be 20 years old, and have been putting it to good use! :)
