Chevron Picnic Quilt

Ellison Lane Quilts

I am entering my Chevron Picnic Quilt in Jennifer's Summer Sewing Contest.

A few months ago my daughter-in-law asked me if I would make them a picnic quilt. I was happy to do so. I had two charm packs of Reunion and some scraps left from making the granny square quilt and saw Jeni's pattern on the Moda Bake Shop blog, so I knew this would be the quilt I wanted to make for them. I was so excited that she would ask me to make her a quilt, seeing that her aunt is an amazing quilter (but I hear a little selfish when it comes to giving them away).
The Pattern was really a dream to make and one of the few patterns that actually says, "Don't worry about the patchwork seams; they won't match up!".
Before giving the quilt to my son and his family, I took it on a little photo shoot at one of my favorite local parks.

I started piecing the squares together and laying out the pieces on my sewing room floor. The pattern came together so fast and the pattern was a perfect showcase for these fabrics.

It was a beautiful day at the park, so I had a fun photo shoot with the quilt.

I can imagine them sitting at a park like this one close to our home.

The quilt is big enough for all 6 of them to sit on and enjoy some family time.

I quilted the quilt with straight lines echoing the chevron pattern.

I used Kona Ash as the background. It really is a perfect compliment to the Reunion fabrics.

I backed the quilt with a green gingham fabric on either side of a smaller chevron made with 2.5" squares. I like using quilts as tablecloths, so this gingham gave it just the look I was hoping to achieve.

I bound the quilt with one of the red fabrics from the Reunion line.

After my photo shoot at the park I had errands to run, so I took a few photos of the quilt at the feed store. Here, on the back of a {horse}.
And here with a painted cow.
The farm stand seemed like a good photo op for the quilt, too.

It also looked right at home on my patio table.
But, my favorite photos are of my granddaughter, on her birthday, all ready to go to her birthday party at the splash park.
She's the perfect model {ham} to use in a photo shoot.
I think her smile says it all...this quilt is a hit!

Beautiful job. I do love this quilt. I recently made this pattern for the Precious QAL in a Dick n Jane fabric I had been saving. (Blogged http://threadtime.wordpress.com/2012/05/17/dick-n-jane-9-patch-chevron-quilt/). I didn't catch the 'seams don't have to match' until I was almost done and stressing. LOL.
Your backing looks great. I will be piecing my back this month and quilting (hopefully before the month ends!)

Oh, I love it! I'm not a quilter (but maybe someday, I can dream!) but I think your quilt is amazing! That's a great way to adopt the chevron trend. Visiting from Sew Many Ways :)

Definitely a hit! And I love the idea of carting the quilt around with you while you do errands, keeping an eye out for photo ops!
