Coasting Along, Zakka Style

I have had Ayumi's lovely book, Patchwork Style, since it first became available on Amazon and have had my eye on a few of the projects in it. When Lindsey and Debbie decided to host a sew-along, I jumped on board. I know I won't make all the projects in the book if only for the reason that it overlaps our vacation next month. But I surely could not resist making these cute bell pepper coasters.
Our hydrangea bushes are starting to bloom and they are so, so lovely. I just had to use them as a photo prop.

I also followed Penny's instructions for making the matching hot pad. I put a double layer of Insulbrite to ensure that the recipient would not get burned. These will be a little gift for our son's Finnish friends, who will be meeting us in Helsinki and giving us a personal tour while we are there next month.

I keep the twill tape from fat quarter bundles and this one from Moda worked well for the stems.

I didn't realize that one coaster had the lining sewn on wrong side out until I took this photo. That makes it a unique set, because I'm not going to rip it out.
For the hot pad I used one print of each color that I used in the coasters.

There's one Zakka 2.0 project completed and one gift ready to travel to Europe.

I've seen quite a few versions so far, and it's amazing how exciting it is to see each new set. Yours are truly beautiful! What a great idea to use the Moda twill tape for the stem!!! And I really love that you used all four prints from the coasters in your hot pad. You are brilliant with design options!

These are darling. Thanks for the idea of using two layers of Insulbrite. I'm not sure why I haven't done that before. I have added regular batting but insulbrite makes a lot more sense! Duh.

Those are super cute Di! And how fun was it to visit Danny in person too. Sounds like Arizona was a great trip. Next month are you headed overseas and to the FQR? FUN!
