Delivered by Pony Express

Who needs mail service when you can deliver something in person?
This weekend we are visiting our son in Arizona so it was the perfect excuse to see my friend, Danny, to deliver a pillowcase that I made for her charity group. Danny is collecting 20" pillow covers, zipper pouches and drawstring bags for children in the foster care system in Arizona. Please check out her blog for information to see if you can help.

Danny is so committed to this organization that what she does not get donated, she makes the rest herself, so that no child will be left without. She's a real giving spirit.

I decided to make a pillow cover from an orphan block I had made with the wrong background color for a bee last month. I sashed the 12.5" block with some yellow fabric to bring it up to the required 20" size.

Since this pillow is for a teen girl, I thought I would use this cute print from IKEA for the backing to make the simple envelope style backing.

I quilted it with straight lines about 1/4" apart using Isocord 40 wt. thread in white. It should make a sturdy pillow and hold up well to some teen camp pillow fights.

I enjoy sewing for different charities and I am always glad to help out a friend. And it was really fun to see Danny and catch up with her news, even if it was for only a few minutes.
