The Traveling Shoes

Having just returned from vacation, I don't have the energy nor the brain cells to tell you all about it. The jet lag has really kicked in today and I am coming off the high of a wonderful vacation and an even better Fat Quarterly Retreat experience. Hopefully, I will get my act together in a few days and I can tell you all about the retreat and also share some of the highlights of our Baltic Cruise.

But, let me tell you about the shoes that have traveled with me for the last three years. They are made by Reiker and are the most comfortable walking shoes I own. I have worn these shoes on every trip and most days at home, too. I wear them as sandals and also with socks. They are not the prettiest shoes, but I gave up on pretty shoes a long time ago.

Shoes and I do not get along and I usually live in my slippers when I am at home. I have a neuroma in my foot and almost every shoe hurts it. I used to be a long distance walker and have walked in 6-60 mile walks for breast cancer. Back and foot problems put an end to that, but I made some wonderful friends through those walks and raised a lot of money for breast cancer research.

I recently ordered another pair of the same shoes but the company has let a lesser manufacturer make this style and they just are not the same. I am hoping with some gentle breaking in and even some abuse they will become as comfortable as the first pair.

It's a pretty good chance that if you have seen me in the last three years I have been wearing these shoes. I'll keep wearing them as long as they stay in one piece.

What are your favorite and most comfortable shoes?

Danskos and Keens. Walked through a pair doing 10 hour walks in the Czech Republic one summer. Replaced the pair of Danskos with Keens. Now I tend to toggle back and forth.

You can conquer the world in a good pair of shoes, but I never noticed your feet while you were here. I was too busy chatting with your gorgeous face.

Hey Di, So glad you had a great time and can't wait to hear all about your wonderful cruise and FQ retreat.
Sorry to hear your 2nd pair of shoes aren't the same as the first. Hopefully your idea of breaking them in and a little of abuse will help. I know flip flops are terrible for my feet but that is what I wear from March thru September. My favorite flip flops are OKA B's.

I have given up cute shoes long ago as well, when I first noticed I was getting a bunion at 25! Now I live in my Keens (I have summer Mary Jane style and winter/shoes/boots). I'm also a big fan of my Chaco flip flops as they have great arch support, an extra set of straps on top of the foot, and don't squeeze anywhere! For leather shoes I have a couple pair of Borns too.

Oh, and maybe it is because of my own shoe selection...I think your shoes are pretty cute!

I love my Danskos but you have to be careful as you can twist your ankle if you are not careful. I also have a pair of Merrell ballet flat type shoes. I have narrow feet and have a hard time finding shoes that will stay on my feet. My daughters, all three of them, swear by Chaco's. I can't wait to hear about your trip.

I did not notice your shoes either, like Susan I was looking at your smile. I have bought the same shoes over and over when I find a good style. However I like shoes and have many pairs and my favourites change all the time.

I don't wear heels these days either. And theses days, very few shoes are my friends. I have a new pair of Ecco flip flops that I think will be a favorite!
Glad to hear you are back safely.

I don't buy many shoes because I find too many styles are just not comfortable! But I love Naot shoes! They are expensive (in Australia, anyway) but well worth it. Standing for 9+ hours at the Australian Open Tennis has proven that! (BTW I cannot comment on your blog when I read your blog on Blog Lovin'. You might want to check your comment settings)

I don't really like any shoes and my preference is barefoot but if I have to wear shoes I definitely prefer something flat and wide (like my feet) ;)

Oh Di - hope you are feeling better today and can't wait to catch up with you. I wear boots from November to February and sandals/flip flops from March to October...unless I'm in England and then I wear wellies ;)

I love my Merrells I have to say, but sexy they are not lol I wear a lot of Clark's shoes to work, but that's mainly because a friend get's 1/3 off there, and my only other shoes are DMs and Converse. Oh yes, sexy footwear all the way here ;o)
