Blogger's Quilt Festival, a second entry

Since we are allowed to enter two quilts I thought I would bring back an oldie but goodie. To this day I really cannot believe that I made this quilt. First of all it was only the 6th quilt I ever made. I saw the pattern and was immediately attracted to it. Why? I ask myself now. I don't even like cats! I did not know what paper piecing was and I had no idea how to execute the pattern. I had a lot of encouragement from one of the ladies who worked at my LQS and she actually taught me to understand foundation paper piecing as we talked over the counter at the store.

The quilt is made with a combination of foundation paper piecing and applique. The faces and whiskers are all hand embroidered. This quilt was made long before I started blogging so the photos are not of very good quality.
This quilt was made in 2003 and gifted to my frined, Tzippy, for her birthday. She loves cats and loved the quilt. She loved it so much that she asked if I would make it bigger so she could use it on their king sized bed. So I cut off the binding on the sides and added two long strips of fabric and re-quilted the sides and finished the binding. I am entering this in the Bed Quilts category.

To this day, every summer when Tzippy swaps this quilt with another on her bed, she thanks me for making it for her.

I don't have a cat, but I love that pattern. What a lovely quilt, and I am REALLY impressed to hear that you made it early in your quilting career! :)

Oh, cool - I didn't even see the cats at first; I was just admiring the New York Beauty! Great job.

I saw the NY Beauty first too! I'm not a real cat fan but this is SO unique! And you were taught well! I love this!

When I saw the little picture popping up in my blog reader I had no idea that there were cats in this quilt. So fun!

What a lovely quilt! I didn't notice the cats at first, either. Do you happen to remember the pattern name, or where it can be found?

I too bought this pattern way before I possessed the skill to make it. Now that I've seen yours, I want to get it out and get started on it. Very cute! Oh yes, and not like cats? Perish the thought!

I didn't even notice they were cats until you pointed it out, what a mad idea! Well done though :oD

I bought the pattern for that quilt years and years ago, intending to make it for my son, who was then a little boy in love with kitties. In december my little boy will turn 18. He still loves kitties. Who knows, maybe I will make it for him yet.

Thanks for sharing.

I've seen this pattern several times and loved it, but yours is just spectacular. Fabulous color placement! And what a clever way to upsize it to fit your friend's king bed. It looks nice!

One of the things that I love about this quilt is that you don't see the cats in the pattern right away. It is beautifully pieced.

Like everyone else I didn't spot the cats at first either. It's a really fun quilt.
