Handmade Birthday Club

My friend, SusannahKate, started a fun swap. It's called the Handmade Birthday Club. There are 12 people in each hive and mine is called 1:45 AM. There are many hives so we are broken up to evenly distribute our birthdays throughout each group. We make something for the birthday girl(s) each month and then in our birth month we receive gifts. Nice concept, right?
I am in a group with some really creative and fun gals. I know most of them and I am so excited to be in this group.
I have been working on some surprises. I am kind of weird when it comes to making gifts. I really do not like making something that I don't love or would not like to receive, so I hope my group likes what I make.
First up is Karen. I made her a Sew Together Bag. It was designed to be used for sewing supplies, but not knowing what Karen might want to use it for, I did not make the pin cushion part of the pattern.

This bag has been on my list of things to make for a while. I had a few problems with the pattern. The biggest one was there were not may progress photos in the PDF, so it was only through the help of IG friends and Flickr photos that I was able to figure out some of the steps. It is really easy to make when you know what it is you are supposed to do.

So here is my helpful hint. The most difficult step to understand was attaching the side facing to the lining of the bag. I hope this photo helps anyone who gets stuck at this step.

Happy Birthday, Karen.

A lovely pouch - what is the bright magenta lining fabric? A couple of friends and I are making this soon - so thanks for the photo - I am sure it will help when we get to that point.
