I've Become a Hoochie Mama

I know that title is probably going to get me a ton of spam mail but I had to do it. I've been alternating between using Best Press and spray starch and I'm not happy with either one. Spray starch gunks up my iron, flakes and makes a mess (I've even tried making my own with cornstarch), but it is useful when making a block with very tiny pieces. Best Press is just so pricey.
A while ago my friend, Ramona, told me about Hooch Spray and I thought she was kidding, but I googled it and it's for real. So I made up a batch and started using it and I love it. Who wouldn't want a chance to buy the cheapest bottle of vodka on the shelf and get all the crazy looks from the checkers at Trader Joe's?  {I'm easily amused}

Since the Waterlogue app has been discovered by the IG quilting community I thought this photo deserved an edit just for this blog post. Having a sister who is an iphoneographer helps keep me ahead of the game on apps, but it sure is fun seeing everyone's quilts being made into beautiful watercolored prints. If you like iphoneography check out my sister's blog, Instagram and Flickr sites.
This is a photo from our summer vacation that I edited with the Snapseed app. I really like the way it turned out. Mr. Romance wants a print for his office.

I've been working on bee blocks this week. 2 are secret blocks for Susan in the Stitch Tease bee, so I can't show them until April.
The other two are for Annabella in the Modern Stitching Bee. She wanted wonky, log cabin blocks in blues, aqua, bright green and creamy whites. I had a difficult time discovering my wonky side...maybe I should have had a few swigs of the Hooch Spray. The colors are also a bit off, but hey, it's night and it even might rain here in the next day or two.

I promise Bella, they look better in person.

Who knew vodka would make a good starch.

YAY! I'm so glad you love it! My favorite part is going to buy a bunch of random groceries and a huge bottle of cheap vodka with all 3 kiddos.
:)

Annabella's blocks are lovely, and the vodka starch is interesting.

HA! Vodka- who knew!? It might make the blocks more wonky too! I must try "Snapseed" for myself, I think. It's a new one to me....

You make me laugh. If you have a bad day sewing can you drink the hooch spray?

Haha, do you mix anything else with the vodka, or is it just straight vodka? I might get some funny looks if I head into our local off licence for a bottle of cheap vodka, especially as there has been loads of stuff in the press about drinking during pregnancy!! Like your wonky blocks :o)

Ha, I totally think you should have had a swig of the 'starch' ;o)

I will definitely be hitting up the liquor store within the next couple days for this starch fabulousness. I love that she scented it. Did you do that to yours?
