I am busy getting ready to head to Charlotte, North Carolina for the Sew South Retreat. I am so excited to see all "my girls" and to reunite with old friends and make some new friends, too. It is a little bittersweet because 2 of my European friends, who were not able to secure tickets for Sew South, will be instead traveling to meet another of our friends in Morocco. I wish I could be in two places at once, but I guess I could spend my life just traveling from one retreat to another and visiting with quilting and blogging friends. Oh wait...real life has to fit in there someplace, right. I am blessed to be able to go to meet so many of the quilting community who have become my friends.
I have been wanting to make myself a Super Tote. The last one I made was for my sweet friend in Seattle.
This time I made one for myself to carry all my onboard "stuff" for the trip.
I have certainly gotten some mileage out of the bicycle print that I ordered from Spoonflower a while ago. I added a few prints in the colors of the bicycle print and some text prints to make a quilt as you go panel for the outside pocket. I also used pre-purchased cording because Joann's was out of 1/4" cord to make my own.
The majority of the prints used are from Julianna Horner's line for Joann's.
I love that big, roomy, elasticized pocket on the inside.
I also added a zipper pocket to keep some things a little more secure when traveling.
A pop of yellow on the inside of the pocket, just because.
For the gusset, handles and band across the top I used some Essex Yarn Dyed Linen and made sure to use 2 layers of Pellon 809 fusible interfacing to give the bag a lot of stabilization on the linen pieces. I don't like a sloppy looking bag.
I thought a red zipper tied in nicely with the red piping.
Anna writes such clear and direct instructions and she does not leave any doubt for error.
This bag is really big and roomy and will carry lots of stuff for the plane. For everyday, real life, it is too big for me, but I know I will be glad I have it on this trip.
Now I need to go pack. This is just my class supplies and Secret Sister gifts. I think I am going to have to pay for an extra piece of luggage$$$
We'll catch up soon.
