March Bee Blocks

Stitch Tease and me...
Helen is in command of the March bee blocks for the Stitch Tease bee this month. She asked for square in a square in a square in a square...you get the picture. I followed her measurements but for some reason my blocks turned out a lot bigger than she wanted. I really don't know how to correct it so I made her 3 blocks and hopefully she can figure out a way to incorporate them. Maybe the others are having the same problem and she can add sashing to all the blocks and bring them all up to the same size.
If anyone knows a secret to making these blocks, I'd love to know.

It's also my month as queen of the Modern Stitching Bee. I asked for plus blocks with a bright jewel toned center and a low volume background. I drew out my measurements for my bee mates on the Touch Draw iPad app. I am learning how to design blocks and quilts on this app thanks to Lynn and some of her fun tutorials. I hope to get a better understanding of quilt design by practicing on this app.

cross block

I've only had time to make one block of my own but hope to make several of these real soon. They make up really fast using 5" charm squares for the corners.

Scrappy low volume cross block

There has been lots of secret sewing going on lately in my studio. I've been making gifts for my secret sister for Sew South Retreat and also gifts for the March birthday girls in the Handmade Birthday Club. I hope to be able to reveal these things as soon as they are received.

I wonder why your blocks were 'over-sized'? I hope someone has the answer for you! And the plus block is great too!

I know why they're oversized. The corner of the previous round has to actually touch the next round, you've got a probably 1/16" - 1/8" gap at each one (probably in an effort not to lose the points) and those all add up. I had the same problem, so frogged it and started again.

Oh dear - not encouraged by your and Katy's comment - does Helen know the problems people are having? Lovely blocks btw :)

I love the blocks, they are both on my list for one day now. I had fun making the ones for you, they took no time at all.

I'm with Annabella! Love your blocks but worried about making mine now. Your plus block is gorgeous too!
